As of Aug 2023, there were 877 million broadband subscribers in India. This represents an increase of 7.7% from Aug 2022. The growth in broadband subscribers has been driven by a number of factors, including the increasing availability of affordable broadband services, the growing popularity of smartphones and tablets, and the increasing demand for streaming video and other online content.

In India, approximately 96% of broadband internet users connect via wireless technology. Only about 4% use wired broadband connections.

The high percentage of wireless broadband subscribers is largely driven by the rapid growth in affordable smartphones and mobile data plans, making mobile the predominant way Indians access the internet.

The growth in wireless broadband subscribers has been driven by the increasing availability of affordable 4G and 5G services. In addition, many mobile operators are now offering unlimited data plans, which has made broadband more affordable for consumers.

Wired broadband infrastructure is still limited, with FTTH fiber connections available to less than 20 million households as of 2021. Poor wired connectivity makes wireless the only viable option for many.

The growth in wireline broadband subscribers has been driven by the increasing demand for high-speed internet services. Many ISPs are now offering fiber-optic broadband services, which can provide speeds of up to 1 Gigabit per second (Gbps). This has made wireline broadband a more attractive option for consumers who demand high-speed internet access.
